“Fastbacks were rapidly climbing the popularity charts in the mid-Sixties, so Dodge figured it should have one, too. Instead of building its version on a compact chassis like Mustang and Barracuda, Dodge put its sleek new roof on the mid-size Coronet and called it Charger.
“Dodge advertised the new Charger as the ‘new leader of the Dodge rebellion.’ With its sporty lines, its looked rebellious. And when ordered with the largest engine options – among them a 425-horsepower Hemi V-8 – it became downright ornery.”
